The Serpent and the Axe

Turn it. Every side is a show.

Sammy the Serpent, from the 1977 Love Gun Tour. The Axe Bass, from 1979. Together for good.

  1. Coiled around the center pole, sculpted and painted by hand over weeks: green eyes, a forked red tongue.

  2. The Demon's Axe Bass, strings and all, as a full tang meat axe, with a pickguard cast in aluminum.

  3. Printed across the blade. Not hand signed.

  4. Genuine leather over a G10 core, studded with steel, capped with spikes. Makers told us it couldn't be done.

  5. Sculpted flames on iron and polyresin poles keep the 1.5 kg axe steady. They do not light up.

  6. Red bat wings spread across the back, painted by hand.

Act I · The vision

They said it couldn't be made...

Excess, volume, theatricality. Three ideas, and everyone had a reason they could not be built.

  1. The Hellfire Demon Axe on the Sammy the Serpent stand

    01

Two icons. Two eras. One piece.

Sammy the Serpent first breathed fire on the 1977 Love Gun Tour. The Axe Bass debuted in 1979, in the I Was Made For Lovin' You video. When Sam returned for the End of the Road tour, it was like reuniting old friends. Now they are together for good.

    Too complex, they said.

  2. The Axe Bass head: strings, pickguard and blade

    02

The Axe Bass, as a real meat axe.

So faithful to the original that the band could grip it, nod, and say: let's rock.

    Can't be done, they claimed.

  3. Sammy the Serpent, close up

    03

A serpent strong enough to hold it.

Sammy the Serpent, sculpted and painted by hand in painstaking detail: the backdrop for the greatest show on earth.

    A pipe dream, they insisted.

...so we made it anyway.

The design

Every wing is painted by hand.

Act II · The execution

Craft, dedication, defiance.

Half a century later, still rocking. Years of development, techniques we had never tried, and the band's own team checking the history. Fifty years of KISS deserved a tribute just as bold, and just as loud.

Questions

How limited is this release?

This one-time-only release is limited to 650 pieces. Once these are gone, they will not be produced again.

When will it ship?

This release is now in stock. Available shipping options and charges are shown at checkout.

How limited is "limited edition"?

Only 650 Gene Simmons' HELLFIRE DEMON AXE pieces will ever be made. This is a one-time-only production run. When they're gone, that's it—no redos, no second editions, no exceptions.

Why only 650 pieces?

This is the artisan approach to collectibles that defines everything we do at StudioForge™. We specialize in ultra-limited editions, creating some of the world's most unique collectibles. By avoiding mass production, we ensure not just the highest quality, but extreme rarity.

Can I use this axe in the kitchen?

While designed primarily as a collector's displayable, Gene Simmons' HELLFIRE DEMON AXE is fully functional and will perform exceptionally. The 7CR17MOV steel is built for heavy-duty use. However, most collectors choose to keep their Bladed Displayables™ in unused condition to preserve both value and pristine appearance.

How do I care for it?

Use & Care Instructions

Gene Simmons' HELLFIRE DEMON AXE is first and foremost a culinary collector's item, designed primarily for display. While the blade features premium materials and engineering, the unique materials require special attention if you choose to use it.

For collectors, we recommend keeping it in unused condition on its display stand, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.

For those who wish to use the axe, please note that the genuine leather handle will require occasional conditioning, and the blade—while highly functional—demands proper care to maintain its pristine condition.

Essential Care

Hand Wash Only: Clean with warm water and mild soap immediately after use. Never leave food residue or moisture on the blade.

Dry Immediately: Thoroughly dry the entire axe, paying special attention to the leather wrapping and joints between blade, pickguard, and handle.

No Dishwasher: Never place the axe in a dishwasher as this will damage both the blade and handle finish.

Leather Care: Occasionally treat the leather wrap with appropriate leather conditioner to maintain grip and appearance.

Store Properly: Always return the axe to its display stand when not in use, in a cool, dry environment.

Expert Recommendations

Respect the Leather: The wrapped handle is genuine and will need occasional conditioning with quality leather conditioner.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Don't leave in direct sunlight, extreme heat, or very cold environments.

Handle With Rock Star Care: This is a limited edition piece; treat it like the legend it represents.

By following these care instructions, your Gene Simmons' HELLFIRE DEMON AXE will remain a treasured centerpiece for years to come.

What to Absolutely Avoid

  • NEVER use a dishwasher. High heat, harsh chemicals, steam cycling, and contact with other objects will permanently damage finishes, corrode steel, and deteriorate handle materials.
  • NEVER soak the blade in water or leave it wet.
  • NEVER use abrasive cleaners, bleach, or chemical solvents on the blade or stand.
  • NEVER cut on glass, ceramic, granite, or metal surfaces.
  • NEVER store the blade loose in a drawer where it can contact other metal objects.
  • AVOID prolonged contact with acidic or reactive foods (citrus, tomatoes, vinegar, raw onion) on Damascus or copper-content blades.
